Behind Colloquial Vibes

It took quite a long time (longer than I’d planned) to decide on how I’d begin my new blog. Going into my brainstorming process, I first wanted to begin with a post that would pretty much describe and encompass what my vision for my blog/vlog would be — something along the lines of "Miami’s Top 5 Budget-Friendly Destinations". I feel like I picked such a complicated name, but I also feel like it 100% describes my goal and the journey I decided to embark on.

Colloquial Vibes… you understand what I'm trying to convey with my site name, right? It was one of my fears upon choosing the URL and making everything final with GoDaddy. I remember learning the definition of colloquial in Mrs. Beam’s english class my junior year of high school. It means local expressions, words, language, etc etc. If you aren’t already familiar with Miami’s colloquial expressions, make sure to check out this gem that became pretty viral a few years back. With regards to Colloquial Vibes, I took the meaning a bit further and sort of created my own definition.

I titled the post this way because well… for as long as I’ve been living here, I'm still feeling like a total stranger to Miami’s biggest, and most popular hot spots. Colloquial Vibes is the essence of my dire need to just travel and concurrently, help the real Miami tourists. I currently live with my mom and dad, the rarest breed of traditional parents left in this city. I can’t tell you how many years of “Why can’t you just go out, Lorella?” that I endured. Despite all that, I’m not afraid to say I still love them to death and that I understand exactly where they’re coming from. They’re the ones I have to thank for passing on the wanderlust/travel bug to me, and I think this “confinement” that my friends so believed I experienced did me some good.

Truth be told and embarrassingly enough, Colloquial Vibes was born out of the desire to see all of Miami with my current boyfriend, who in my defense is not a Miami local. Nevertheless, I’ve always had this burning passion to simply get out of my bed, do things my own way and even make my own mistakes. Boyfriend or not, this is what I want to do and I’m so willing to be a Miami pseudo-tourist given that I’ve been here for over 15 years!

I hope I can better help others enjoy Miami to the fullest. Follow me on my journey… and thanks for reading xx

  2. Totally love the name! I started blogging just as a form of therapy, to get my thoughts out. But after my last {not so good} relationship, I felt an absolute calling to write to encourage and equip women to embrace their identity in Christ so that they will experiencing vibrant God-anointed relationships. I see it like disaster deferment haha
